Three rules that never change

  1. Design at 2× when in doubt. Platforms compress everything; oversized uploads survive compression better than exact-size ones.
  2. Respect safe areas. Vertical formats lose the top and bottom to usernames, captions and buttons — keep anything important in the middle 80%.
  3. One image rarely fits all. Resize per platform with the aspect ratio calculator instead of letting each app auto-crop your subject's head off.
