First: this is normal, and it isn't a verdict on you
Every new video gets a small test: the platform shows it to a handful of people and watches what they do. If they scroll past the thumbnail, or swipe away in the first seconds, distribution quietly stops — and the video "dies" at zero or near-zero. That's not the algorithm hating your channel. It's the algorithm reporting that the packaging and the hook didn't win their two-second decision. Which is fixable — it's the part of the craft that has rules.
The four things actually in your control
1. The packaging — thumbnail + title decide if the test even starts
Nobody watches a video they never click. At feed size your thumbnail is ~120 pixels wide, next to twenty competitors. One subject, three words max, real contrast. Test yours honestly with the free Thumbnail Tester (it previews at the real sizes, with a squint test) and score your title against click-through research with the Title A/B Scorer.
2. The hook — the first two seconds are the whole audition
On Shorts and TikTok the swipe decision happens before second three. Your opening line must make a specific promise instantly — say it and show it. If your videos open with "hey guys, welcome back," that's very likely the leak. The free Hook Generator gives you openings from six proven formula families.
3. The topic — make videos people are already searching for
A brilliant video on a topic nobody types into a search bar starts life with zero demand. Specificity wins: "the 2026 ferry disaster nobody explains" beats "maritime history". The Idea Generator combines proven formats with your niche; if you're not even sure of your lane, take the Niche Picker Quiz first.
4. Consistency — the test repeats every upload
One video is one lottery ticket. The channels that break through are the ones still publishing at video 20, because every upload is a fresh algorithmic test with better-calibrated packaging. This is exactly where most people burn out — the production grind, not the ideas. That part is outsourceable.
What genuinely doesn't help
Buying views — destroys the retention statistics the algorithm reads, and violates policy. Deleting your 0-view videos — old uploads keep collecting search traffic for years; deleting resets nothing. Sub4sub — subscribers who never watch actively poison your click-through and retention rates. Uploading the same style harder — if five videos got zero traction, the sixth identical one will too; change the packaging variable, not just the volume.
The uncomfortable honest bit
Sometimes the video itself is the issue: muffled audio, wall-of-text scenes, no captions for muted viewers, a pace that drifts. Polish is measurable — captions, sound design, motion, a hook that lands. If producing at that level every week is the wall (it's 4–8 hours per video by hand), that's the exact job our Studio does: finished videos with depth-styled scenes, cinematic sound, word-synced captions and the full SEO package — from a two-minute brief. The first one's free, so you can compare it against your current output before spending anything.
